Minutes of the 18th Annual General Meeting
of the Dorset Local History Group
held at Dorset County Museum
at 2.30pm on Saturday 5 April 2003

Under the Terms of Reference the meeting was only just quorate.
- 1. Apologies.
- Jane Ferentzi-Sheppard, George Mortimer
- 2. Minutes of the last meeting.
- These had been circulated and were signed as a correct record.
- 3. Matters Arising.
- Under item 7 - the Terms of Reference have been circulated
to new committee members.
A working group will be set up to review the Terms of Reference,
which need updating.
- 4. Chairman's annual report.
- Dr Reeve reported a fairly modest beginning as his first year in office.
In October the Secretary, Brenda Innes resigned.
She was thanked for her hard work.
Attendance at the April and November meetings was poor.
Dr Reeve gave a talk on Law and Disorder in 17th century Wimborne Minster
to the April meeting
and Dr Ken Abel gave a talk on Medicine in Dorset in the 17th century.
The Field Trip to Moreton House in July was well attended and enjoyed by all.
The Day School in February explored Seafaring, Shipwrecks and Smuggling :
Maritime History in the South West.
78 people attended and the event raised about £900 for the Museum.
In view of the wide variation in attendance,
it is planned to circulate a questionnaire to members
to find out what they would like, and the best time for events.
A database of members and Local History Groups is being compiled.
Dr Reeve ended by thanking the committee for their hard work
and the Dorset County Museum for their hospitality and support.
- 5. Election of officers.
- Dr Reeve was elected as Chairman
(proposed Ann Smith, seconded Cecil Amor).
Mrs Ann Smith was elected as Secretary
(proposed Merry Ross, seconded Jill Pope).
Pamela Le Bas, Anne Hosford, Dr Karen Mew and Dr Judith Ford
were elected to the committee for three years
(proposed Merry Ross, seconded Cecil Amor).
Jane Ferentzi-Sheppard, George Mortimer and Dai Watkins
have two more years to serve,
and Cecil Amor, Emma Ayling, Humphrey Dibdin and George Tatham
have one year to serve.
- 6. There being no other business, the meeting closed.
